IKONO Rome: An immersive dream born in the heart of history

April 16, 2025

Right in the historic center of Rome, just 100 meters from the imposing Pantheon, lies an experience that redefines immersive art. IKONO Rome is not just an interactive experience, it’s a sensorial journey wrapped in centuries of history. Its home, Palazzo Crescenzi, holds secrets, Renaissance frescoes, and a story as captivating as the experience itself.

The Power of Place: Palace, History, and Mystery

What immediately fascinates visitors about IKONO Rome is its location. Palazzo Crescenzi is no ordinary building, a papal gift to the Crescenzi family, likely in the 16th century, it still preserves original elements like frescoes painted by Giacomo della Porta, a disciple of Michelangelo. This makes the space a perfect fusion of history and modernity.

Entering IKONO is not like stepping through just any doorway in central Rome, its entrance — a low, metal door — surprises, intrigues, and stirs curiosity. This contrast between the modest exterior and the artistic splendor inside prepares visitors for the unexpected.

Art That Breathes History

A key pillar in the design of IKONO Rome was respecting the original architecture, rather than imposing a new experience on an old structure, the team chose to integrate, enhance, and let it speak. Marble frames with centuries-old cracks, original brickwork, and, of course, the frescoes were all preserved. Walking through these rooms is to feel the passage of time in every corner without losing an ounce of sensorial innovation.

Tokyo in the Heart of Rome

Among all the rooms, the most challenging was undoubtedly the Yokocho, a recreation of a Japanese street in Tokyo style, featuring vibrant neon signs and traditional houses. The challenge was not only creative but also logistical, but the result speaks for itself: Yokocho doesn’t just visually transport you, it emotionally pulls you out of Rome and drops you straight into Shinjuku.

More Than a Cultural Stop: Redefining Artistic Narrative

IKONO Rome is a statement of intent: art, history, and innovation can coexist and move you. It’s not just an artistic experience; it’s an invitation to reconnect with your inner child, to pause, and to feel.

Rather than competing with the weight of Rome’s past, IKONO embraces and honors it, offering a fresh, contemporary counterpoint for those who have already explored the city’s classic landmarks. It’s a conscious pause, an unscripted experience, and a pure moment of presence in a city that constantly looks to the past.
